Filmfare Awards South are the oldest and most prominent film awards given for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films in India. They are given annually to honour the best talents and provide encouragement and incentive to the South Indian film industry. The 55th Tiger Balm Filmfare Awards for South India were presented at Chennai on July 12, with Sun TV as official television partner, Radio Mirchi Chennai as official radio partner. Tiger Balm is the title partner for this event.

Katrina Kaif, the sexiest woman as was declared by a popular fashion and style magazine, attended the event to add the Bollywood zing. A four hour spectacle that was special in its celebration of unity of four different film fraternities. This function was a huge success. Singh Is Kinng is an upcoming Hindi film starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. About 75% of the movie was shot in Australia, around the Gold Coast region and Brisbane using an Australian production team (Instinct India). Producer Vipul Shah said when the shooting was taking place in Gold coast, Australia, some Sikh community members visited the sets and pointed to discrepancies in what is being portrayed. The film is scheduled to be released on August 8, 2008.
