Southall United Football Club is facing its deepest crisis ever. Bankrupt, with no stars, no coach, no sponsors, no takers, no spectators and most importantly no owner. After the city council sends an eviction notice, it’s the last chance to save the ground, the club and their honor. Now, Southall United must win the Combined Counties Football League in their otherwise last season. One man’s dream takes the team on a remarkable journey in this football-themed drama. Shaan (Arshad Warsi) takes up the challenge to save the club from extinction. After a disesteemed ex-player, Tony Singh (Boman Irani) joins them as the coach, in spite of the being sniggered, and laughed at, he and Shaan, work to gather the worn out team. Its hard work as they approach their first game.
Sunny Bhasin (John Abraham) dreams to play for England crashes after his club does not select him. The reason is apparently not his game but the color of his skin. Sunny himself had always laughed at his own community and Southall United. Sunny and Shaan could not ever see eye to eye. Adding to their personal chaos is Shaan’s cousin sister Rumana (Bipasha Basu) who is in love with Sunny. Tony manages to convince Sunny to play for Southall United. It takes a while before Shaan and the team warms up to Sunny. With Sunny joining Southall United the team gradually starts climbing the points tally. The city council is worried.
The only goal that the pragmatic Sunny has is winning- with all of the material perks and fame that he can acquire. He is more interested in being noticed himself, than Southall United winning the cup. Johny Bakshi (Dalip Tahil) a commentator and a frontman of the council, plan to lure Sunny away from Southall United. Sunny will need to sacrifices everything he believed in for something which he never believed. His love for Rumana, his relationship with his father and his life are at stake.
Indiagames Ltd, India’s benchmark mobile and online games company and Bindass – UTV’s Youth channel have teamed up with UTV Motion Pictures to announce the launch of the ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan GOAL FIFA CHALLENGE’ – a national level FIFA gaming championship where deserving contestants will win a chance to watch the movie with the film’s star cast – John Abraham, Bipasha Basu and Arshad Warsi and also win a host of other cool prizes.
The GOAL FIFA CHALLENGE will be organized by Indiagames at affiliated cyber café’s across 5 Indian cities i.e. Delhi, Kolkatta, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai between 25th October and 19th November 2007 as part of the Games on Demand (GoD) League. Four winners from each zone will compete at the national finals to win a chance to watch the movie with the star cast in addition to loads of other prizes including goodies from Microsoft.
The contestants will play FIFA 08 on the XBOX 360 console platform in a one on one elimination mode and each city winner will travel to play the National Finals in Mumbai on the 23rd of November at the“GOAL” premier show.
While other filmland couples including the honeymooning Aishwarya-Abhishek and the shooting Kareena-Shahid can’t seem to get enough time with one another, Bipasha actually feels she spends ample time with her boy friend.
Says the upfront actress, “We’ve more than enough time together. While we’re in Bombay we’re always together after shooting. And while we’re on separate outdoor locations the time we get to spend away from each other is very very important for our relationship. We can’t be together constantly. “
Currently Bipasha is shooting Abbas-Mustan’s Race in Dubai with Saif Ali Khan while John is in London shooting Vivek Agnihotri’s Goal.
Bipasha’s fans who respond to her on her website are very concerned about the future of her relationship with John. “They keep reading all these stories about an impending break-up. And they write hurt and angry letters.
‘How can you break up?!’ It’s quite sweet to see our fans being happy in our happiness. I had to write a reassuring few lines to them on the website saying we’re very much together.”
Bipasha admits John and she are discussing marriage. “But not right away. There’s still time.”
Apparently John is busy hunting for a larger house for the future alliance. “John is very practical and has a great business sense. He’s busy hunting and buying property. Let’s see what the future has in store.
Bipasha behaved like an awe-struck teenager when she met Portugal soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo in Lisbon.
It doesn’t get better than this. Bipasha Basu, who co-hosted the grand event at Lisbon last Saturday to reveal the new Seven Wonders of the World, is back in Mumbai. And it is not so much the Taj Mahal she wants to talk about – despite the monument making to the new list by popular demand – as much as Portugal soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo! The Bong bombshell was the toast of the event in Lisbon. She had the experience of a lifetime.
While the Manchester United striker played court to her all evening, Oscar winners Sir Ben Kingsley and Hillary Swank too came under Bipasha’s charms, and by the time she left for home – the Bollywood actress had a new set of swish international celeb friends. Bipasha tells the story: “I was proud to announce Taj in the new list of Seven Wonders of the World. Everyone there were such easy-going and warm people. We struck great friendships and I want to cherish this for a lifetime.” Sir Ben compared her to Hollywood’s original sex goddess, the Italian diva Sophia Loren. And agreeing with him was the former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, who also found an uncanny resemblance to Loren in Bipasha.
“Sir Ben was very helpful,” says Bipasha. If tomorrow she makes it big in Hollywood, she’ll know whom to thank. “Sir Ben guided me how to get there. I already have a few meetings lined up. Let’s see, if some good role comes my way, I shall think about it. I will certainly not do any tidbit roles just to get into Hollywood,” she firmly says. Hillary Swank, Bips found to be very unassuming, sweet and warm. “When my luggage didn’t arrive, Hillary lent me an outfit for the evening. But when my bags came and Hillary saw my dress, she complimented me saying this outfit suited me better and that I looked really beautiful ,” reveals Bipasha.
And then there was Ronaldo, God’s gift to women, with whom Bipasha behaved like an awe-struck teenager. “Meeting him was a dream come true. I am a big fan of his. And I was totally floored by the way he kept showering me with praises all the time. It was very flattering. After the event, we went out clubbing, and that was simply fantastic,” recalls Bips.
“Ronaldo said he loved Bollywood films. But I laughed, thinking he was just being sweet. However, he surprised me by taking out his cellphone and playing the song Tujhse Naraaz Nahi Zindagi from Masoom. He loves this song,” laughs Bips. “He then introduced me to his mother, who is a big Bollywood fan, and she swore that Ronaldo was a Bollywood deewana!”
Back in Mumbai now with a trunkful of pleasant and thrilling memories, the lucky, star-struck actress is determined to keep in touch with her new friends regularly. “I am planning to send across some DVDs of my films and some other good Hindi films to Ronaldo. He said he wants to see them,” blushes Bipasha.
